The God Who Whispers

In this message, the Rev. Dr. Stephen G. Ray, Jr. reads the flight into Egypt as a story that could have gone a dozen other ways, and asks what it cost Joseph, the magi, and the shepherds to choose the whisper over the throne room. From there he turns the question on us: why do so many Christians keep falling for power in its many changing costumes, and what would it mean to follow a God who still won't be found there?

A Place for Hope

United Church on the Green has been gathering on this green since 1742. That’s long enough to learn what a church is actually for: not comfort for its own sake, but hope that’s willing to get its hands dirty.

We take that seriously. We’ve been Open and Affirming since 1989. Our history includes standing with the Amistad captives, standing trial alongside the Black Panthers, and divesting from apartheid South Africa, because hope that never costs anything isn’t really hope.

No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life’s journey, there’s a place for you here. We’d love to meet you.
